What is Chai

Almost every day in the tea shop, customers ask us about chai. You had such a great tea there (with friends, in the café, on the train, …) and now you really want to have this at home. Of course, this is where the problem begins, because chai is not the same as chai. In this blog post, we explain which varieties of chai tea are available, where chai tea was originally invented, how best to prepare it and which delicious recipes can be cooked or baked with it.

WHAT DOES CHAI TEA MEAN?

The term cha actually comes from Northern Chinese and means nothing more than tea. He spread along the way of the Silk Road, which used to be one of the most important trade routes in the world. This way, silk, spices and even tea found their way into the whole world. On this route via Turkey, Russia and Co, the original term Cha became the chai or Cay. Since this term, purely legally, cannot be protected, that is, it cannot be registered as a trademark, the whole world now calls tea drinks with spices chai. Strictly speaking, chai tea is called tea tea, which makes little sense, unless you want two of them at once.
