What is a W9

If you are a U.S. citizen or a U.S. resident alien (regardless of your country of residence), you must provide a form W-9 to an employer to provide your taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) so that your employer can meet the tax return requirements. Depositphotos will use the information you provide on Form W-9 to submit reports on your income to the IRS.

The completed and signed US tax form W-9 (Request for Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification) must be handed over at the request of a natural or legal person (e.g. bank or other financial institution) who is obliged to make a tax declaration to the IRS (e.g. Form 1099-DIV). A non-resident alien should not submit Form W-9, but Form W-8BEN.
