Known cryptographic hash algorithms are MD4, MD5, SHA-1 and TIGER. This is also used to save passwords unreadable for the administrator. Instead of storing the password in plain text, only the hash value of the password is stored and compared with the hash value of the password of a later input. In order for these procedures to continue to be safe, they must be combined with salts or key stretching today and applied several times.
