Chico city is located Butte County.
One of California’s most unique small towns, Chico blends the energy of a contemporary college town with a long history as the center of Butte County’s neighboring farming communities.
With a center of majestic nineteenth-century buildings and a leafy cover of thousands of urban trees, the city remains rooted in its past. This is most evident in the Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park, where you can tour the imposing three-story Italian mansion, home to the city’s founder, John Bidwell. Along with his wife Annie, who donated nearly 2,200 acres (890 hectares) of land to the city after her husband’s death, Bidwell is responsible for the remarkable Bidwell Park in Chico. Today the park extends 11 miles (18 kilometers) from the city center to the mountainside and gives Chico a municipal park and recreational destination that cities of many more inhabitants, than its nearly 100,000, would envy.
